The draft Rural Land Use Strategy (RLUS) proposes a Vision, Strategic Directions and Implementation measures to assist Council to more effectively manage use and development in rural areas. This includes dwellings, agricultural and non-agricultural land uses, environment, tourism and rural interfaces.

The Rural Land Use Strategy seeks to:

• Promote more sustainable, diverse, resilient and productive agricultural industry within the Shire.

• Highlight Moorabool’s unique position to support food security.

• Promote land uses that align with new land classification maps.

• Recommend policies to encourage or discourage certain land uses.

The RLUS takes a practical and common-sense approach that allows Council to make informed and consistent decisions on planning permit applications, and to support rural landowners to appropriately manage and develop their properties.

Project FAQs

What does this mean for my property?

The RLUS is a framework that Council officers adhere to when considering land use and development permit applications. It also provides data and mapping regarding land capability that can be used for decision making and advocacy.

What impact will my feedback have?

Your feedback on the draft Rural Land Use Strategy (RLUS) document will help Council to ensure that the final Strategy reflects and caters to the needs of the Moorabool community. Initial inputs from the Landowner and Community Survey 2020 and a workshop in 2022 informed the content of the draft RLUS.
