Darley Park Play Space

  • Completion Date28 March 2025

Background

The Darley Park Master Plan (adopted in 2021) identified the need for a playground upgrade. A community survey, which allowed the community to indicate the type of play equipment they wanted at the new play space, also found almost 700 people aged 55+ years provided unpaid childcare to someone else's children, identifying a strong need for an intergenerational play space where seniors and children can interact and engage in physical activity together.

Council received $200,000 from the State Government's Living Local - Regional Grants Program in 2022, going toward an over $800,000 project.

The project

The project will include:

  • Soft landscape (irrigated lawn area and tree planting)
  • Footpaths, including a connecting path to the pavilion
  • Picnic tables and park benches
  • Drinking fountain
  • Play equipment - sandpit with shade sail, rockers, carousel, swings and climbing equipment (to be installed February 2025).

As part of the works, the existing playground (which currently sits between the cricket nets and shelter) will be decommissioned, and the site will be restored as a lawn area. The new play space will be located on the corner of Grey and Fitzroy streets, Darley.
