Background

Following the completion of the Masons Lane Reserve Master Plan in 2023, Moorabool Shire Council engaged dog park experts 'paws4play' and KLG Landscape Consultants to develop the design for a brand new off-leash dog park for Masons Lane, which would be the first facility of its kind in the municipality.

The design includes the following elements:

  • Approximately 4000m2 fenced off-leash dog park with a number of play elements (digging pit, space breakers, drinking bowl, dry creek beds and native landscaping)
  • A double gate to ensure the safety of the surrounding community and has been designed to cater to off-leash and on-leash dogs, as well as good dog park practices.

The activation of this area (which includes a slope) will result in a park in an ideal location, linked to the greater community.

Moorabool Shire Council received the State Government's Open Space for Everyone - Dog Park Upgrades grant (Round 1) of $400,000 towards this project.

The project

The project commenced construction in early December 2024 and will include:

  • Agility equipment
  • Seating
  • Drink fountains with dog bowls
  • Canopy shade tree planting and landscaping
  • Dog bag dispensers
  • Designated active and quiet zones for dogs
  • 4000m2 of fencing to secure the park
  • DDA-compliant path that links to existing footpaths along Young Street.

The project is expected to be completed by late March 2025.
