Council is pleased to announce the tender for construction of the Ballan library and community hub was awarded at Wednesday night’s Council meeting, meaning work on the facility will start soon.

AW Nicholson Pty Ltd was the successful tenderer for the hub, which will include a state-of-the-art library, community spaces, maternal and child health services, art spaces and an outdoor courtyard.

“It was exciting to award the tender last night for this very important project,” Mayor Cr Ally Munari said.

“This is a project for which Council has advocated strongly for some time, and we’re so pleased to see it kick off, with thanks to the Victorian Government for its generous contribution through its Growing Suburbs Fund and to the community for money it has raised to help build the hub.”

Central ward Councillor Paul Tatchell said there is a lot of local support for the new facility.

“I know the Ballan community is eagerly awaiting this new facility and we’re very excited to deliver it for them,” Cr Tatchell said.

Member for Eureka Michaela Settle said libraries were the heart of a community, and the growing community of Ballan deserves the best of the best.

“It’s so much more than just borrowing a book as well; it’s about having a public space that people can get together with one another. I’m looking forward to the library and community hub build getting underway,” Ms Settle said.

Funding contributions for the project:

$3.5 million from Growing Suburbs Fund

$1.5 million from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program (Vic Government)

$2.425 million Moorabool Shire Council

$250,000 community contributions
