Moorabool Shire Mayor Cr Rod Ward was delighted to join Member for Eureka Michaela Settle to Ballan today to officially open the new Ballan Recreation Reserve pavilion.

Councillors Ally Munari, Moira Berry and Paul Tatchell, and members of the Ballan Football Netball Club, and Cricket Club were part of the celebrations to open the $4 million facility.

The facility includes a new sports pavilion with a function room, kitchen and bar, office space, meeting rooms, storage sheds, and new change rooms.

It was funded through a State Government election commitment of $3 million. Council contributed more than $1.2 million through its Capital Infrastructure Program and contributions from Bendigo Bank ($50,000), Goldwind Community Fund ($73,400) and the Reserve Committee of Management ($40,000) helped see the project come to fruition.

A certificate of occupancy has been issued for the pavilion, after some hold-ups due to weather and availability of trades.

In addition to the pavilion, Council has installed new barrier netting behind the north end goal posts, new 100 lux LED oval lighting and a three lane outdoor cricket training facility.

“This is a fantastic new facility,” Cr Ward said.

“It’s a magnificent asset for the Ballan community – not only for the sporting clubs that will use the facility weekly, but for the entire community who will be able to access the space for functions and meetings.”
