Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance Inc. (BMPA) is a non-profit association which protects, monitors, advocates for and educates the community about platypus in the waterways of Bacchus Marsh and surrounds.

BMPA formed in late 2019 and now has over 60 members. New members are welcome!

Our program areas include:

  • 'Platypus Next Door' program: Raising community awareness of our local platypuses and how to help protect them.
  • Platypus Arts Trail: Using the arts to help raise community connection with our local rivers, platypus and other native animals and plants.
  • 'Clean Site for Platypus' program: Engaging with relevant stakeholders and agencies to stop pollution from housing development and building sites entering local rivers and creeks where platypuses live.
  • Monitoring Program: Monitoring platypus presence, water quality, litter types and sources, and macroinvertebrates (waterbugs, which platypuses eat), and taking relevant action about these where we're able.
