Min Chiang "Finding Strength Within"
"In our journey through life, we encounter a myriad of emotions, ranging from joy to sorrow, with our moods often fluctuating. Yet, it is common to find ourselves ensnared by worries, stress, or past traumas, struggling to break free from their grip. I too have experienced the depths of confusion and anguish, attempting various methods to liberate myself from such afflictions. Ultimately, I stumbled upon a pathway to happiness – a journey inward, a return to the essence of self. This series of artworks portrays individuals embracing their own beings, serving as a testament to the reservoir of strength residing within us all. Deep within, we harbor immense potential. Only by delving into the depths of our souls and embracing our true selves can we reclaim our inner power, heal the wounds that lie within, and discover the tranquility and joy that await us in the recesses of our hearts."
Current Exhibit from 26 November to mid January 2025 - Bacchus Marsh
"16 Days of Activism"
The 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence begins on 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and ends on 10 December (Human Rights Day). This year will be the sixth year that Moorabool Shire Council has participated in the campaign.
The campaign seeks to combat the underlying drivers of gender-based violence, by raising community awareness that everyone has a role to play in changing attitudes as well as the systems, policies and processes that allow violence to thrive.
In 2024, a community and youth art exhibition at the MAPP up in Lights installation at the Village Green in Bacchus Marsh will form the centrepiece of our campaign. A workshop with four young people held in October saw the creation of six pieces of art with the support of local artist, Lou Callow. Young artists were asked to create a piece that reflects the campaign theme of ‘Respect Is…’ focusing on an issue that aligns with a driver or contributor to gender-based violence. Here is one example of the youth art you can expect to see:
