Wandering stock on roads is a risk to motorists, the public and the animal itself. It is an offence for a person to allow livestock to wander or to fail to adequately confine livestock to a property. It is the responsibility of the landowner and/or animal owner to ensure livestock is adequately contained to its property. As wandering livestock can be dangerous it is important that animal owners make sure their animals are properly secured at all times.
If you see livestock wandering on a road or public space please report it straight away as Council has the authority to remove and impound livestock from Council-owned roads, parks, or reserves.
As wandering livestock is a safety issue please phone us so we can attend to the matter immediately. Council Officers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist.
