Lerderderg State Park

The Moorabool region is a hiker’s paradise. Surrounded by stunning wilderness, native flora and fauna, gorges, rivers, picnic grounds, mineral springs and trails to suit hikers of all experience levels, there’s something for everyone in our State parks and forests.

Lerderderg State Park centres on the 300 metre deep gorge cut by the Lerderderg River, which rises in the Great Dividing Range.

It has a wide variety of habitat and wildlife, as well as some goldmining relics. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos and wallabies.

It is a great place for bushwalking, from easy strolls to overnight hikes. There are some swimming areas and 4WD tracks. In late winter and spring the area has spectacular displays of wildflowers.

You can picnic at Mackenzies Flat Picnic Area, which offers the chance of a swim and has a toilet. You can also picnic at Shaws Lake.

O’Briens Crossing has camping areas and toilets are available, but you must be self-sufficient.
