Use this A-Z recycling and waste guide to help you make the best decision when clearing out common items from the kitchen, garage and everywhere else in your home.

Many items can be recycled into new products, saving valuable resources, energy, and landfill space. A cost may be associated with some disposal or recycling services – contact the provider first to check.

Face masks (disposable)

- Avoid by using a reusable cloth facemask in line with DHHS directions

Fast food/processed food leftovers

- Recycle in your Bokashi bin or green cone solar composter
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Fish and seafood waste

- Recycle in your Bokashi bin or green cone solar composter

Flexible/soft plastics (bags and wrappings)

- Avoid by taking reusable bags with you and avoid highly packaged items
- Reuse for as long as possible before disposing
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Flowers

- Recycle in your home compost bin
- Recycle in your optional green waste bin (urban areas) (lime green lid)
- Recycle at a Moorabool Transfer Station (fees apply)

Fluorescent light bulbs & tubes, and CFL globes

Recycle light globes at the sorting stations at:
- Lerderderg Library, Main Street, Bacchus Marsh
- Ballan Council Office, 15 Stead Street, Ballan
- Darley Council Office, 182 Halletts Way, Darley

- Recycle at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station

Never put any electronic item in a household bin, e-waste is banned from landfill and is a contaminant in the recycling bin.

Flyscreens

- Reuse by selling, swapping, or giving away. Try eBay, Gumtree or local Buy Swap Sell pages.
- Reuse by using it to sift compost/soil for your garden
- Dispose at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Foam underlay

Dispose at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Foil-lined plastic (chip packets, wrappers, etc.)

Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Fridges/freezers

- Reuse by selling, swapping, or giving away. Try eBay, Gumtree or local Buy Swap Sell pages
- Contact Bacchus Marsh Rotary: Western Emergency Relief Network (WERN) to see if this item is accepted for donation
- Recycle as scrap metal at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (no cost)

Fruit bags (plastic)

Avoid waste by buying fruit loose and using your own bags

Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Frying pan (electric)

- Reuse by selling, swapping, or giving away. Try eBay, Gumtree or local Buy Swap Sell pages.
- Contact your local Op Shop – find out if they accept working electronic items
- Recycle as e-waste at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (no cost)

Frying pan (stove-top)

- Reuse by selling, swapping, or giving away or donating. Try eBay, Gumtree or local Buy Swap Sell pages
- Get creative – drill holes in the base and turn it into a plant pot

Fuels, petrol, diesel, kerosene

Donate through Sustainability Victoria's Detox Your Home events. Council runs one event per year, and residents may attend events in other council areas. No cost.

Furniture

- Reuse quality items by selling, swapping, or giving away. Try eBay, Gumtree or local Buy Swap Sell pages
- Contact Bacchus Marsh Rotary: Western Emergency Relief Network (WERN) to confirm if this item is accepted for donation.
