Use this A-Z recycling and waste guide to help you make the best decision when clearing out common items from the kitchen, garage and everywhere else in your home.

Many items can be recycled into new products, saving valuable resources, energy, and landfill space. A cost may be associated with some disposal or recycling services – contact the provider first to check.

Garden waste (green waste)

- Recycle in your home compost bin
- Recycle in your optional green waste bin (urban areas) (lime green lid)
- Recycle at a Moorabool Transfer Station (fees apply)

Gas bottles and canisters (empty only)

- Melton Transfer Station (33 Ferris Road Cobblebank) accepts them for $10 per piece
- Take gas bottles back to place of purchase or service station to be refilled (See Elgas SWAP’n’GO)

Never put gas bottles or canisters in a household bin they can cause fires in collection trucks

Glass (not bottles or jars)

Examples include window glass, mirrors, wine glasses, and picture frame glass.
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)
- Wrap in paper before disposal

Glass bottles and jars

- Recycle in your recycling bin (yellow lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station. Remove steel lids (steel lids can be recycled by collecting in a steel can, squashing closed once full and then placing in recycle bin)
- Reuse as water bottles or vases
- Reuse to propagate plant cuttings
- Reuse for food or storing small items

Glasses (spectacles/sunglasses)

- Donate to Specsavers in Bacchus Marsh
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Glossy paper (e.g. brochures, magazines - remove staples)

Recycle in your recycling bin (yellow lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station

Gloves (rubber or vinyl)

- Avoid waste by using reusable options
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Grass clippings

- Recycle in your home compost bin
- Recycle in your optional green waste bin (lime green lid)
- Recycle at a Moorabool Transfer Station (fees apply)

Grease-proof paper

- Avoid by using non-stick pans instead
- Search for reusable pan lining alternatives online
- Dispose in your garbage bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Green reusable bags
