Community asset committees

Community Asset Committees (CACs) are made up of volunteers who directly manage daily operational activities at nominated halls and recreation reserves on behalf of Moorabool Shire Council. The role of these Committees is to deliver a service on behalf of Council to their community, including managing a Council facility to ensure it remains accessible and usable by those in the community that depend on the use of the facility.

Community Asset Committees create greater local connection and bring local knowledge that results in more community initiated activation of facilities. We thank all our Committee members for their service to their communities and acknowledge the important contribution to the management of community facilities they provide.

Community Asset Committee Membership Nominations

Council is currently seeking nominations from community members interested in joining a Community Asset Committee.

If you are interested in working collaboratively to activate a community facility in your local area, being a member of a Community Asset Committee is a rewarding volunteer role. Committee members serve for a term that spans four years, aligning with a Council term. We are currently seeking nominations for the 2025-2029 term.

We encourage you to connect with the current contact for the Committee to find out more information about serving on a Community Asset Committee and to request a membership nomination form. A membership nomination form is also provided below:

To apply, please complete the membership nomination form and send to committees@moorabool.vic.gov.au. Nominations will be accepted until 11:59 PM AEST, Monday, 7 April 2025. Following the closure of the nomination period, we will contact each nominee to confirm receipt of their membership nomination and arrange a ‘Get to Know You’ phone call with one of our Council officers. This will be followed by a community vote process for each CAC facility to confirm nominations.

If you have any queries regarding Community Asset Committees or the membership nomination process, please contact Council and request to be connected to the Community Development team.

History of Community Asset Committees

The Local Government Act 2020 (The Act) came into effect on 1 May 2020, providing a new structure for formal Committees of Council.

Under the Act, Section 86 Committees (from the Local Government Act 1989) ceased to exist. A Community Asset Committee (CAC) can be established under s65 of the Act.

In accordance with Section 65 of the Local Government Act 2020, Council established eleven Community Asset Committees that have delegated powers by the Chief Executive Officer. These committees were first established in 2020.
